Walking 1000 miles of Britain's Dismantled Railways

A GROUND-BREAKING BOOK
Great Britain once had an extensive railway network that served many remote rural communities. The railway closures of mainly rural branch lines, during the 1950’s and 1960’s, created a vast network of dismantled railway lines of about 7000 miles.
'Boots On The Line’ , published in December 2007, is the story of a couple of chaps who set out to explore a significant chunk of that railway heritage, walking 1000 miles of dismantled railway line over a six year period. The book is also a practical guide for anyone who wants to retrace their steps, as OS grid references pepper the text.
The 32 (363pp) chapters each detail a walk along an old line, and with over 200 B&W photographs showing the old lines as they are today, this book is essential reading for anyone even vaguely interested in the fate of our railways. For some reviews see: Amazon
